The report, titled "Technology Report 2023," reveals that more than three-quarters (78%) of respondents across various industries are already using AI in some capacity. These companies have found that AI has not only met but also exceeded their expectations.
The accessibility of AI technology has been a driving force behind its rapid adoption. In 2022, the release of ChatGPT, a large language model, made AI more accessible to the public. Within just two months, it gained a staggering 100 million users. This increased accessibility has significantly reduced the cost of implementing AI, allowing companies to reap its benefits at a lower price point.
The report also highlights the industries that have embraced AI the most. System integrators lead the pack, with 89% adopting or evaluating AI. The marketing/advertising industry follows closely behind at 86%, and the technology industry comes in third at 85%. Across all industries, 78% of companies are using, adopting, or evaluating at least one of the top six foundation model use cases.
One of the key advantages of AI adoption is the speed at which companies can introduce products to the market. According to the report, 76% of executives reported that AI has shortened the time it takes to bring a product to market. This accelerated product development process gives early adopters a significant edge over their competitors.
Furthermore, AI tools are already capable of speeding up 20% of worker tasks without sacrificing quality. As the technology continues to advance, this figure is expected to improve even further. The ability to reduce the time spent on tasks while maintaining high quality can lead to increased productivity and cost savings for companies.
The report warns that companies taking a "wait-and-see" approach to AI integration are at risk of falling behind their competitors. David Crawford, the global head of Bain's technology practice, emphasizes that companies already integrating AI into their workflows will outpace those that delay adoption. The latter group risks missing out on the potential future gains that AI can offer.

The report concludes that companies that fail to integrate AI risk being left in the dust.
