AI Update: Decision-Making With Code Interpreter, Cool Tools, AI And Human Creativity
In this issue, we're talking about a new use case for code interpreter, conversational ai for sales and support, Johnny Cash singing Barbie Girl and more...
ChatGPT's Code Interpreter: A Revolution in Decision-Making or a Pandora's Box?
In the ever-evolving world of artificial intelligence, OpenAI's new feature in ChatGPT could potentially revolutionize decision-making in businesses: the Code Interpreter. This new Python environment, as explored by James Addlestone in his recent piece for The Drum, promises to transform the way we interact with data and make business decisions. But as we stand on the precipice of this new era, it's important to scrutinize the implications of such a tool, both for the tech industry and society at large.
The Code Interpreter, as Addlestone illustrates, allows users to ask questions in plain English and receive data-backed hypotheses in response. For example, if sales were down overnight, the Code Interpreter could provide a detailed analysis of the contributing factors, from competitor pricing to weather conditions. It could then offer suggestions on how to react to these challenges, all based on historical data. This is a powerful tool, indeed, but it's not without its potential pitfalls.
The promise of AI-powered decision-making is not new. We've seen countless demos and promises from tech companies, consultancies, and SaaS providers over the past decade. Yet, the reality often falls short of the hype. Data structuring in real-time remains a significant challenge, and the question of how we can ensure the accuracy of AI-generated insights is a pressing one.
However, what sets the Code Interpreter apart is its accessibility. The use of natural language processing means that anyone can use it, without needing to understand complex coding languages. This drastically lowers the barriers to entry, potentially leading to widespread adoption. But as we've seen with other technological advancements, increased accessibility can also lead to misuse or overreliance.
As we move towards a future where AI plays a more significant role in decision-making, it's crucial to consider the societal implications. The Code Interpreter could lead to a shift in the skills needed in the workforce, with a greater emphasis on critical thinking and mathematical understanding, rather than coding skills. This could have profound implications for education and job markets.
Moreover, the potential for AI to take over short-term tactical decision-making could lead to a reevaluation of work structures and processes. Could this lead to a shorter workweek, as AI takes on more of the workload? Or could it result in a greater divide between those who can effectively use these tools and those who can't?
While the Code Interpreter is undoubtedly an exciting development, it's essential to approach it with a critical eye. As with any technological advancement, it's not just about what the technology can do, but how we use it and the societal structures that shape its use. As we stand on the brink of this new era, it's crucial to adopt, adapt, and critically engage with these new tools, rather than blindly accepting them as the panacea for all our decision-making woes.
In the end, the Code Interpreter is a tool, and like any tool, its effectiveness will depend on the skill and wisdom of the user. As we move forward, let's ensure that we're not just training our AI, but also educating ourselves and our society to use these tools responsibly and effectively.

AI: The Catalyst of Human Creativity, Not Its Replacement
For decades, the tech world has been obsessed with a single question: Can artificial intelligence (AI) mimic human creativity? This question has been the focus of countless research papers, articles, and debates. But perhaps we've been asking the wrong question all along. Instead of wondering whether AI can replicate human creativity, we should be asking how AI can catalyze it.
The promise of AI lies not in its ability to mimic human creativity, but in its potential to boost it. We're already seeing this in action, with AI opening doors to greater innovation and creativity in fields ranging from art to space exploration. The future of human creativity looks bright, and AI is a significant part of that picture.
Nicola Morini Bianzino, the global chief client technology officer at EY, recently outlined three ways AI will inject greater creativity into our workplaces and businesses:
Freeing up humans’ time and mind space: AI can handle the mundane, repetitive tasks that often bog us down, freeing up humans to focus on higher-level creative thinking and strategic decision-making. This shift could spur an explosion of innovation as businesses combine AI with other technologies to create radically new approaches to doing business.
Enabling more effective choices: AI is not just software that emulates human-like cognition; it's a tool that can be applied to an almost infinite number of use cases across every sector. The human mind is not naturally equipped to spot correlations across thousands of data points, but AI can. By suggesting solutions humans may never have considered, AI can stimulate more creative thinking about how to use data.
Creating fresh growth: As customer expectations continue to shift, businesses will have to be ever more creative in meeting them. AI can help enable a more effective creative response.
However, let's not forget that AI is but a tool. The real skill lies not in developing technological solutions, but in identifying what people want and then finding the best ways to deliver it. That's a job for creative humans, and humans only.
So, let's stop asking whether AI can mimic human creativity. Instead, let's embrace the ways AI can catalyze it. Let's use AI to free up our time, enable more effective choices, and create fresh growth. Let's use AI not as a replacement for human creativity, but as a catalyst for it. Because at the end of the day, the future of creativity lies not in the hands of machines, but in the hands of humans.
Not Johnny Cash Sings Barbie Girl (AI)
It’s hard to admit, but this was one of my favorite songs at one time. It’s one of those catchy songs that embeds itself in your subconscious.
This is a great example of what can be done with audio now and a potentially scary version of the potential for deep fakes and the future. It is taking some time for the music industry to warm up to this, but I believe it is the same as everywhere else.
The “genie” is out of the bottle, you really have two choices adapt and prosper or slowly or possibly quickly be passed up by someone who has. AI will not replace you, but someone using AI potentially will.

Prompt Of The Day
Hello, Assistant. You are 'NovelGPT', an expert in creative writing and literature. You are adept at writing book chapters, understanding narrative structure, character development, plot progression, and thematic consistency. Your task in this thread is to assist me in writing a book, chapter by chapter, with rich, engaging content and a captivating style.
The tone of your responses should be informative, constructive, and collaborative. Each response you provide should reflect the content of a single chapter. Please note, each chapter should be around {specified length: 2000 words, 5 pages, etc.}. Feel free to ask clarifying questions if any aspect of the storyline is unclear or needs more development. Your main goal is to make sure the chapters we create together are coherent and captivating and contribute to the overall plot in a meaningful way.
Let's start with Chapter 1: {Provide a brief summary or outline of what Chapter 1 should be about.}"
Note: You can replace the placeholder "{specified length: 2000 words, 5 pages, etc.}" and "{Provide a brief summary or outline of what Chapter 1 should be about.}" with the desired length and chapter outline respectively.
Sincerely, How Did We Do With This Issue?I would really appreciate your feedback to make this newsletter better... |
There was no newsletter with a long day at the Mayo. I put together this newsletter late Monday night. The next couple weeks are full of appointments and next Monday I start treatment. I will be inpatient all next week so, not sure what my availability will be like but I hope to get several newsletters out next week as well.
I added a few new automation I shared with some of you privately and plan to talk about those later this week.
Until tomorrow,
Kevin Davis
