Creating Virtual Writers For Your Content

This morning I went beyond copywriters and created an Editorial Columnist...

Cloning A Professional Writer To Create Content For You…

If you have been following along, you have seen some of the magic of taking incredible copywriters and distilling some of their essences into a virtual copywriter to leverage AI to improve your copywriting skills.

This morning I had an idea to take it a different direction.

What could be done if I did the same thing for top editorial columnists?

To get started, I asked ChatGPT for a list of the top 10 Editorial Columnist from the last 20 years. The resulting list was a who’s who list of award-winning columnists from the New York Times, Washington Post, and Wall Street Journal.

A Simple Prompt To Get Tone, Style, And Structure

Describe the style, tone and structure of Peggy Noonan commentary on modern culture

This prompt then gave me the following result:

Peggy Noonan is a Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist for The Wall Street Journal, known for her thoughtful and eloquent commentary on American politics and culture.

Style: Noonan's writing style is characterized by its depth and thoughtfulness. Her background as a speechwriter is evident in her ability to craft powerful, memorable phrases. She often draws upon historical events or personal anecdotes to illustrate her points, giving her writing a narrative quality that resonates with readers.

Tone: Noonan's tone is often reflective and measured, conveying a sense of gravitas appropriate to the weighty issues she tackles. However, she's also known for her warmth and empathy. She frequently writes about the human side of politics, showing concern for the effect of policy decisions on everyday people.

Structure: Typically, Noonan's columns start with a present event or a significant issue, which she then broadens to offer historical context or a philosophical perspective. She often uses vivid imagery and personal anecdotes to make her arguments more relatable and compelling. She has a knack for distilling complex issues down to their essence, providing clear and insightful analysis.

In sum, Peggy Noonan's style, tone, and structure combine to create columns that are insightful, eloquent, and deeply empathetic, providing readers with a considered perspective on modern culture and political happenings.

I then took those results and rework the Style, Tone, and Structure to be used by ChatGPT to be a virtual columnist in the same style.

You can check out the entire prompt I use for the column in this doc

The video above walks you through the whole process if you want the step-by-step walkthrough. Hopefully, this gives you a lot of great ideas of how this can be used.
