Text based video editing with Adobe

AI takes over North American Broadcasters Show in Vegas

Once again, generative AI advancements in the video are one of the most exciting things for me. This week at NAB in Vegas, Adobe revealed more of the AI additions to Creative Cloud through the new Firefly.

Natural language video editing is becoming a thing. Last year, Descript changed its interface to become more of a video editor moving from editing video by editing the transcript to also creating scenes and adding images within the transcript versus traditional timeline editing.

Now with Firefly, we can easily change the lighting to Golden Hour, Cool, Morning, etc, just by typing. Same for adding music or sound effects.

They also made it easier to find B-Roll in the editing process and the ability to generate a storyboard based on the scene directly in your script.

They didn’t stop with Premiere Pro but also updated After Effects simplifying how we can add textures to words.

Will this replace video editors?

IMHO, no I don’t think so. What it will do is make them more efficient and we’ll see better quality work over time. I say over time, because I believe we are also going to see more of the effects added more often because it’s easier now and they will become less effective if overused.

Scaling ChatGPT

Through the browser interface, ChatGPT V4 is still limited to 25 requests every 3 hours. In reality, it seems like more than 25 are let through but I do regularly reach a limit where I need to take a break.

Based on the latest reports I have seen, there are no plans of releasing GPT-5 this year.

Sam Altman also eluded to the idea that we are starting see the largest models we will see for ChatGPT. The next leverage point will not be the model, but improvements to the Transformers.

On the model side of things, we seem to be seeing a focus on more specialized models and smaller models that will be able to run a smartphone or laptop/desktop.

What do you envision for the future? Hit reply and let me know…

Enjoy your weekend and we’ll be back at it Monday morning.

Thanks,
Kevin
